Behaviour

At Kemnal Technology College we develop children’s character through our behaviour curriculum. In order to build character, we define the behaviours and habits that we expect students to demonstrate. We want to support our pupils to grow into adults who are polite, respectful, and grateful, who always consider others. We believe that as pupils practise these behaviours, over time they become automatic routines that positively shape how they feel about themselves and how other people perceive them.

Kemnal Technology College Behaviour Policy

Our education philosophy is focused around three key principles we want all of our students to acquire before taking their place in the global community. These come under our school ethos: ‘WE ARE. I WILL’.

At Kemnal Technology College:

  • WE ARE safe
  • WE ARE resilient
  • WE ARE compassionate
We Are Safe We Are Resilient We Are Compassionate
  • Sitting sensibly in the classroom
  • Walking through corridors
  • Playing games that do not become too physical.
  • Using calm and respectful tones when we communicate.
  • Learning from others
  • Prioritising our well-being
  • Having a positive outlook
  • Being adaptable to change
  • Treating other with respect and dignity
  • Actively listening and showing empathy
  • Showing kindness
  • Offering support to others in need

Our Ten Non-Negotiables Poster

Our Routines

Our staff use a silent signaller to gain the attention of the class. This is done by raising one hand. When pupils see this, they should respond by being silent and responding with positive behaviour for learning.

  • Sitting or standing up straight
  • Tracking the teacher when they are speaking -  ‘ eyes on the teacher’
  • Attention at all times
  • Respect towards others

We do this to ensure everybody is able to learn without distractions. Pupils who do not follow school rules will have a consequence within our behaviour system.

  Staff Action
Support Level 1
S1
When the behaviour for learning is not met, the Teacher gives the student a verbal/non-verbal warning. “S1”.
Support Level 2
S2
If the student's behaviour is not improving, A final verbal warning is issued by the teacher “S2”. The student will be asked to use the ‘break out’ area within the room and use their five point scale to regulate. A seat change will then take place to help rectify their behaviours.
Support Level 3
S3
Despite conversation, seat change and warnings if the student has not rectified their behaviour, they will be parked in the neighbouring room. Students have a choice to take themselves and not be collected. An S3 is now logged on ClassCharts with a 20-minute sanction; parents are informed via ClassCharts of the sanction to be sat the same day.
Support Level 4
S4
An “S4” is used as a Staff on call when a student either fails their park or there is a severe behaviour emergency.
Staff on call remove the student to the oncall room for the remainder of the lesson. This is upgraded to an “S4” sanction logged on ClassCharts with a 40-minute detention on the same day. Staff will complete a phone call to parents/guardians.

Detentions

All detentions take place in the Main School Hall at 3:05pm. Period 4 Teachers will go through the list of students due to have a detention that day before the end of the day as a reminder to students.

If you are removed from a lesson for poor behaviour, you will be taken to the oncall room by a member of the SLT team. As a result of this, a 40-minute detention will be issued.
