PSHE
Our Personal Development curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to thrive in modern Britain. Through a carefully sequenced programme of PSHE lessons, tutor activities and whole-school assemblies, pupils are supported to become confident, respectful, resilient and responsible members of society. The curriculum addresses statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) requirements while also promoting safeguarding awareness, equality, wellbeing and aspiration.
Implementation
Personal Development is delivered through three interconnected strands:
- PSHE Curriculum – A structured programme of learning delivered in lessons which covers statutory RSHE content, mental and physical health, relationships, careers, financial education and life skills.
- Tutor Programme – Weekly tutor time activities reinforce key themes such as study skills, citizenship, wellbeing and safeguarding. Tutors provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and pastoral support.
- Whole-School Assemblies – Assemblies reinforce key messages around safeguarding, equality, health, relationships and behaviour expectations. National awareness events such as Black History Month, Safer Internet Day and Pride Month are used to deepen pupils’ understanding of diversity and social responsibility.
Impact
The impact of the Personal Development programme is reflected in pupils who demonstrate respectful behaviour, strong awareness of safeguarding issues and an understanding of how to maintain their physical and mental well-being. Pupils develop the confidence to seek help when needed and show respect for diversity within the school community. Impact is monitored through student voice, behaviour and attendance data, safeguarding reporting trends, pastoral feedback and curriculum review. These measures ensure the programme continues to respond to the needs of pupils and supports the school’s wider improvement priorities.
Monitoring and Review
The Personal Development programme is reviewed termly by the Personal Development lead and Senior Leadership Team. Feedback from pupils, staff and external guidance informs ongoing development of the PSHE curriculum, tutor programme and assembly schedule to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness.
